Jungalow: Decorate Wild by Justina Blakeney

Blakeney is a designer known for her gorgeous mix of color, print, plants, and textiles, all of which are kicked up a notch in her new book, Jungalow: Decorate Wild. I love the big, bold, and free-spirited style in these pages and really appreciate Blakeney’s advice about how to find design inspiration from your own heritage and travels. “Jungalow style” is about creating spaces that feel welcoming, connect with nature, and are filled with joy, and this beautiful book will help you do that in your own home. — S.B.

No one captures the essence of place quite like Jennifer Jewell. Design the Home You Love: Practical Styling Advice to Make the Most of Your Space by Lee Mayer & Emily Motayed

If you’re a fan of fresh, beautiful design, especially on a budget (think: Target-style), then this new book from the founders of the online interior design company Havenly will hit the mark. Believing that good design should be accessible to everyone, Mayer and Motayed have written a room-by-room guidebook, encouraging readers to find our own style (from Parisian modern to California casual). They then showcase the design decisions and “room recipes” to develop that look without breaking the bank. A great mix of practical advice and inspirational design. — S.B.

The New Heirloom Garden by Ellen Ecker Ogden

Ogden’s terrific book is likely to convince any gardener to grow heirloom plants rather than fill their yards with generic varieties. The New Heirloom Garden is filled with excellent advice and information about planning and maintaining a garden, and Ogden seamlessly works in the multitude of reasons why heirloom fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers are so important— including protecting biodiversity, preserving history, and for their fantastic flavor. This beautiful book also includes 12 different garden designs, and the second half is devoted to recipes using an heirloom garden’s bounty. — S.B.

We Are Each Other’s Harvest: Celebrating African American Farmers, Land, and Legacy by Natalie Baszile

“Black, brown and tan hands in dark rich loamy soil or in sandy shoals have been a part of the agricultural life of this country since its inception. Yet, all too often, the stories of African American farmers have remained unharvested. In We Are Each Other’s Harvest, Natalie Baszile reaps a bounty of tales and shares them along with photographs, history, poetry, and more. This is a must-have volume for anyone who reveres that land and those who work it.”  — Jessica B. Harris, PhD, culinary historian

Arched doorways, colorful tiles, wood-beamed ceilings, white plaster walls, and indoor-outdoor living are all hallmarks of my favorite architectural style, celebrated here in The Spanish Style House. Uprooted: A Gardener Reflects on Beginning Again

In an attempt to find a garden that was more manageable, Dickey said goodbye to her beloved and celebrated 3-acre garden, Duck Hill, and moved to a 17-acre site. Although much larger in size, the new plot is much less work because she is gardening it in a different way, one more in tune with nature. Uprooted is wonderfully written, and I really enjoyed reading about Dickey’s decision-making processes regarding ideology, planning, and plant selection. Engaging and beautifully illustrated, this is a treat for gardeners.  — S.B.
