You could sum up this book by one of its best chapter titles: "Some days it's OK to just knit dishrags." A compendium of heartbreaking and uplifting short essays on knitting by some great writers like Barbara Kingsolver and Sue Grafton, this book had me laughing out loud and feeling utterly lost and found at the same time.
Well worth the read!
This book gives novices and experts (and every kind of knitter in between) the tools necessary to make really beautiful, modern knitwear. I' m a little obsessed with not only how pretty the pictures are (a plus) but also how much information is packed inside. Melville is a genius, and one who has honed her craft to perfection, and I am all-too-happy to benefit from the product!
How do I love top-down knitting? Let me count the ways. Trying on a garment as I knit is invaluable to me, allowing simple corrections to avoid later frogging nightmares. (I also particularly love the look of raglan sleeves—it does wonders for slimming my shoulders!) But seriously, you could make an entire wardrobe out of Kristina McGowan’s second volume of top-down patterns: uniquely styled hats, skirts, sweaters, cardigans, and even pants (no joke!).
Wilkinson’s cute and fun style is so refreshing to see in a knitting book! While most of the patterns in here aren’t really for beginners, they are perfect for novices ready to move to the next level. The fun colors and innovative patterns make this book stand out. If you’re looking for some ideas for gifts or a great book for someone who loves knitting, this is perfect for you.
