Though Kimberly may be a bookseller at heart, she is lucky enough to currently run the Gift Department at Bookshop Santa Cruz. Some of her favorite things include: unrubbed kitten tummies, iced coffee, pizza, hoarding yarn, and Settlers of Catan (or just CATAN, as its current incarnation is so boldly called). Ah, but books, you ask? She loves books with quirky narrators and unlikely love stories. She likes off-beat historical fictions, pretensiously literary sci-fi, and anything that has beautiful pictures with words like "low-sew," "pizza stone," and "from Imbibe Magazine."
A ragtag group of seven pilgrims sets off together, each hoping to find answers on the planet Hyperion. To pass the time they take turns telling their tales-- dark pasts and darker secrets. By far the most literary sci-fi I’ve ever read! If Chaucer could have imagined interplanetary travel, this would be his favorite book. Read ‘The Priests Tale,’ afterwards you won’t be able to stop. Still socially poignant, despite being written over 20 years ago.
Now that we’re through with that pesky cluviel dor, we can get down to the business of murder, mystery, and my undying love of Eric. It’s been a rough decade in not-so-sleepy Bon Temps, Louisiana, and while I long for the naïve Sookie of the past, this hardened, post-torture version is somehow still the everywoman I want her to be--even when the whole parish seems to turn against her. If she can stand up to lost loves, lost loved ones, and lost innocence, so can I. What an exhausting yet satisfying journey we have been on, Sookie and I. I’m sad to see the series end, but as with any good friend, I am glad to put Sookie’s troubles to rest.
The name Bobbi Brown has become synonymous with clean natural makeup, and her newest book does not disappoint! Filled with tips and recommendations for all ages and skin tones, Bobbi will keep you looking beautiful day and night. Pretty Powerful also includes interviews with women famous and obscure on what inner and outward beauty means to them. Empowering stuff!
