Feminist Ryan Gosling by Danielle Henderson

Hey girl, did you know that the world’s sexiest person totally loves women? Thanks to the Feminist Ryan Gosling blog, and the fabulous book it begat, Ryan Gosling can remind you how incredible women are every single day. And while he may not have been directly involved in the making of this book, the fact that he hasn’t sued over it makes me think he approves.

Iron Curtain by Anne Applebaum

What's incredible about Applebaum's Iron Curtain is her attention to detail: she paints such vivid pictures of life in Eastern Europe under Soviet rule, you feel as if you had lived it yourself. Her meticulous research has paid off in a magnificent work on the trials and tribulations of the Eastern Bloc, a subject not as well-known as life in the USSR.

kate spade New York: Twenty Things We Love

First of all, Kate Spade can't do any wrong in my eyes. With that bias stated, you must must check this book out. There's a whole chapter on the color RED! Why not, right? Besides well-placed bows (yes!) and handwritten notes (yes!) and a sense of humor (of course!), this book is a beautiful compilation that visually represents the spirit of kate spade New York.

Cataract by John Berger

John Berger, whose treatises on seeing have shaped cultural and media studies for four decades (see Way of Seeing), records the effects of cataract removal operations on each of his eyes. The result is an illuminated take on perception. Demirel's witty illustrations complement the text, creating a mini-world where eyes take on whimsical lives of their own.
