Home Ground by Dan Pearson

This is a lovely, informative, and beautiful book that is sure to inspire gardeners of every level. British landscape and garden designer Dan Pearson, author of numerous books and host of his own BBC series, excelled at designing his clients’ gardens but, as a city dweller, missed the daily wonders of tending to his own soil. This warm, personal book (which reminds me of Nigel Slater’s Tender) chronicles the renovation, planting, and nurturing of the new space he moves to just outside the heart of London. Home Ground is also filled with absolutely gorgeous photographs that capture both the grand vision and delicate beauty of Pearson’s garden. Highly recommended.

Bernard Maybeck by Mark Wilson

The work of Bernard Maybeck, one of the Bay Area’s most iconic architects, is celebrated in this gorgeous new book. The warmth and elegance of his buildings, which include the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Berkeley, have influenced countless architects for more than four generations. Maybeck’s development of a nature-based design philosophy and his ability to balance historicism and modernity place him among the most important American architects of all time. This is the first comprehensive book on Maybeck in nearly 20 years, and it includes personal reflections of his family, old photos, drawings, and paintings both by and about Maybeck, and absolutely beautiful photographs of his buildings. A knockout.
