Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson

Jenny Lawson (Let’s Pretend This Never Happened) does not like to hold back. She will be the first to tell you that she’s crazy. And she is. For most of her life, she has dealt with mental illness. She suffers from depression, anxiety, and a variety of other disorders and she has found that writing is one of the things that helps her survive. She also happens to be one of the funniest people in the world. Luckily for her (and for us), she has written another book. It is a roller-coaster ride through Lawson’s amazing head or, as she says, “a compendium on ‘how-to-thrive-in-spite-of-your-brain-being-a-real-bastard.’” She somehow manages to candidly address the debilitating diseases of depression and anxiety while making you pee your pants laughing. Yes, that’s what I said. I don’t know how she does it, but I’m glad she does. Don’t believe me? Join us at our event with Lawson on Friday, December 4th.  --George

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling

I loved Mindy Kaling’s first book (Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?) and am thrilled to be able to spend another incredibly fun 240 pages with her. She hasn’t lost the wacky charm that has made her so relatable. This collection of essays recounts tales of life, love, and TV as she finds herself becoming slightly famous. Her sweet, smart, hilarious voice is a delight to spend time with, and this collection will make you laugh out loud.  --Flannery

Only What’s Necessary by Chip Kidd

This art collection, a comprehensive examination of Charles M. Schulz’s most beloved characters from the early days of Li’l Folks to the daily Peanuts cartoons that ran for half a century, is a tribute to the powerful creative impact of “Sparky” on the field of comics. Clean lines, innocent characters, and startlingly precocious philosophical humor mark the simple and powerful genius of the Peanuts comic strip, which turns 65 this year.  —a.c.

I'd Rather We Got Casinos by Larry Wilmore

Stephen Colbert’s absence would be wholly unbearable without Larry Wilmore to fill the sar-chasm (!!!) Colbert left behind. I’d Rather We Got Casinos isn’t new; published in 2009, this essay collection is now in paperback and getting the press it well deserves. Don’t fret—Wilmore has included more original and current content to satiate our need for that clear-cut, baloney-free commentary that has come to define his career.  --Louise
